Rating: Standard, passable version of Palombini caffè
The Blanco Bar Pasticceria Tabacchi cafe is a catch-all, one-stop shop for whatever small pleasure in life you’re set on having. Its interior has the all to familiar ‘black and white = chic’ that’s seen almost everywhere in Rome, so you be the judge. It received a lot of traffic, so I guess folks like this place.

Rating: Standard, normal quality Bologna-roasted coffee in Rome
The Desideri e Caffè cafe in the Monteverde neighborhood is an interesting phenomenon, it is always packed with people. There are always people on the tables outside, inside, and always quite a lot of traffic at the bar. It is about 20 seconds walking distance from the Crismi cafe, which as I said, is a spectacular cafe. Let’s see what’s the deal here.

Here’s a nice surprise lurking right behind the walls of the imposing entrance to La Sapienza University. If you’re ever walking by there, there’s a good reason to stop by an have a coffee. Right as you enter through the main portal, on your right hand side is the La Cascina Coop Bar Caffè. It’s more of buffet or cafeteria, but the coffee is definitely not something that’s overlooked here.

Rating: Standard, decent Traditional North-Italian Coffee
Right of the Piazza Ottavilla, facing the three other bars is the Se Dici Bar, or as the sign states: 16 Bar (if you say sixteen in Italian, its almost the same sound as ‘it is said’ in Italian). I walk into the place and it’s packed inside. There’s a TV and chairs and people having their breakfasts. Its long narrow locale is always packed, students, older people, you have it- it’s there.

Rating: Standard, decent Roman coffee
Canova Caffè is another one of those historic Roman cafes. On the Piazza del Popolo, it’s got an eternal flow of tourists. The clientele is secure, the quality is another story, one that we’ll discover here. You read reviews that it’s crazy good, and that it’s one of the best cafes in Rome. Again, what we have here is somebody (or lots of tourists) confusing great location with the quality of a coffee drink. Two different things, no? The cafe is all front, very little interior space for coffee. There’s a restaurant in the back.

Rating: Standard, very good Roman Traditional coffee
In the San Giovanni neighborhood of Rome you find a nice espresso surprise. South of the Lateran complex of churches, and down the Via Magna Grecia you run into a lot of cafes, this one is ostentatiously called ‘La Roma Caffè, Italian Flavour’. So let’s see if the name holds any water….

Rating: Standard, decent brew of ‘illy’ coffee
The Caffè Donna Olimpia is a very frequented cafe. It’s got a clean, good looking interior, packed with different things to eat, drink (quite a variety of wines), and has a very Roman-Italian feel to it. The people working there are very nice. This is a place that you can comfortably go and have a coffee and hang out.

I passed by this cafe quite a few times before going in. I like the name, Casablanca Cafe. Almost as if you’re promised something somewhat ‘exotic’ in Rome. Or almost nostalgic of some other time and place…Well… the interior was very nice, charming, but not what the name evokes. It was quaint, clean, and again, proper.

The cafe Bar Baffo is right at the foot of Rome’s Trastevere train station. A look at its interior lets you see that this place sees a ton of traffic every day.

The White Bar and Cafe is located on the same street as the Torrazione Trio in the Monteverde area (Quartiere XII Gianicolense) of Rome. Its look is very sleek, very clean, very cool. If you look them up, they have an aperitivo menu, and there’s a side terrace that looks like a cool place to hang after hours. However, your first impression on walking in is that the coffee is important to the place and they show a professional attitude towards what they present. Looks promising!
